Film Comment's Top 20 films of... 2008. |
|
"But wait a second," you're saying. Aren't we approaching the end of 2009? Isn't it that time of the year when critics and geeks alike sit down to look back on the past 12 months, to assess and simplify its ups and downs through the time honored tradition of LISTS! Well, yes, and we'll get to that soon. But when I was sitting on my, ahem, "throne" the other day looking through my January 2009 issue of Film Comment, I noticed something interesting. You see, back when this magazine was released it was pretty useless to us Edmontonians. Only about half of the films they reported to be "the 20 best films of 2008" had played theatrically here, several had played for less than a week (some even a single day), and almost none of them had been released to DVD yet.
Well, I am proud to inform you that as of today ALL 20 FILMS can be found at The Videodrome. So you can catch up on last year while you wait for all the best films of THIS year to be released. So far I've seen 14 and a half of them:
- Wendy and Lucy
- Flight of the Red Balloon
- A Christmas Tale
- Happy-Go-Lucky
- Wall-e
- Still Life
- Paranoid Park
- Waltz With Bashir
- My Winnipeg
- Milk
- Let the Right One In
- The Duchess of Langeais
- The Class
- Synecdoche, New York
- Hunger
- Silent Light
- Ballast
- Man on Wire
- The Exiles
- Gomorrah
Happy movie watching!
-Heather
